Musings at the Lake.
The Walkers and the Gawkers.
After my earlier attempt Musings in the Park, created,if not waves,at least ripples, I thought of sharing my musings about my new walking destination.
After all, this is the Age of Sequels and unending serials.
The Lake is a serene and tranquil tourist spot, normally. But the recent fury of the rains unleashed giant waves that lapped dangerously close to the danger points of the Tower and Regulator Flood Gates.
The opening of the flood gates spelt misery for the low lying areas downstream.
However, now that the flood waters have receded, one can resume meditations on the fragility and transitoriness of Life.
The crowds are back at the lake, and I could not help but notice the Ever-present smartphone in everyone's hands.
We are fast becoming a digital nation, which may be a good thing. But we are also becoming increasingly self-obsessed, narcissistic, and the walkers are outnumbered by the gawkers, who point and shoot at all and sundry, except the scenery around them.
Scarcely anyone looks at the boats, the backdrop of the hills, the soothing waters.
Even the Lovey Dovey couples seem more interested in their smartphones than talking to each other.
But isn't the idea of the lake as a Walker's Paradise, to freshen up the mind and body,
already drowned by our focussed frenzy,
and tossed into the lake ?
An update.
Some viewers have pointed out that surfing on Social Media,no doubt, can grow into an obsession, but it is also a necessary enabler for many, especially the aged and disabled.
Yes, I agree
Within bounds, Social Media is a powerful medium to communicate.
But finding the right balance is the key.
Each to their own. We find what we seek.
