Reality Check on Facebook Likes.

                                  Reality Check on Facebook Likes.
The other day, I caught myself checking Facebook multiple times, to see who was adding to the Likes of my Facebook posts. That set me thinking.
Why are we so obsessed with checking such Facebook Likes? One reason is Peer Endorsement, a virtual pat on the back for our ideas,or perhaps, lack of ideas, dressed up in Forwards. Nothing wrong in doing so,except that it is incredibly  addictive.
Another reason can be FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out. How can we miss out on our Facebook Friends travels, stories? By doing so,perhaps we are trying to ensure that our own stories, also get noticed,Liked.
An interesting phenomenon is the role of  Social Media Influencers. They command vast followings, friends, for whom they presumably set the trends.
Don't  get me wrong. Facebook is a great digital social medium, enabling us to connect instantly with people we normally would not. Long lost friends are found, connections re-established. And in Corona virus times, a great way to time pass.
It is when we start relying upon these instant Likes, digital popularity  literally at our finger tips, and withdraw from real life, that the disconnect arises.
And perhaps the only one laughing all the way to the bank,is the creator of Facebook.
In short, keeping in view the short attention spans of digital social media viewers, this post, like most posts on Facebook, also should not exceed a 2 minute read!!
Stage Whisper. Let me  see how many Likes have I collected?

Reality of digital influences

The times are changing. Earlier, we used to have more 'feelings' than the 'mediums' to communicate, today we have more 'mediums' to communicate than the 'feelings' which we had earlier. I see people expressing more than they actually feel for each other or for themselves. However, in this race, or I may say, a 'trap' of societal validation of our lives, we are missing out our distinct individuality. This individuality defines us and differentiates us from the herd mentality. However, as a part of the community, we also have to remain heedful to the voices and concerns of our own people. Ultimately, like everything else, it is about maintaining a fine balance between the two extremes of the continuum.

Musings at The Lake.

Musings at the Lake.   The Walkers and the Gawkers. After my earlier attempt Musings in the Park, created,if not waves,at least ripples, I thought of sharing my musings about my new walking destination. After all, this is the Age of Sequels and unending serials. The Lake is a serene and tranquil tourist spot, normally. But the recent fury of the rains unleashed giant waves that lapped dangerously close to the danger points of the Tower and Regulator Flood Gates. The opening of the flood gates spelt misery for the low lying areas downstream. However, now that the flood waters have receded, one can resume meditations on the fragility and transitoriness of Life. The crowds are back at the lake, and I could not help but notice the Ever-present smartphon...

LET PEOPLE JUDGE. THEY WILL DO SO ANYWAY.
